ride2015 – april

cathy riding at Kirroughtree under blue skies

The real riding in April kicked off in fantastic style with a mini 7 Stanes tour. Based out of a wooden pod at the Barnsoul Campsite we managed to visit Mabie, Kirroughtree and Dalbeattie over a surprisingly sunny Easter weekend.

Ideal riding conditions of low teens in [...]

Last ride of 2014

alex 2 bikes

The promise of a final decent day of fine if rather chilly weather meant that we couldn’t possibly give up the chance of a final ride of 2014. Given that we had a day to ourselves and had eaten rather too much over the festive period, we decided to take on [...]

2014 challenge the results

fenced in

So now that 2014 is done and dusted the results are in.

To recap I set myself the challenge of riding 4,000 miles or if I want it to sounds slightly more impressive 6437 kilometres during the course of the year.

Not quite sure where the target came from but at [...]

2014 challenge – september

topping out on the burma road

September saw the lowest monthly total so far in 2014 which is in no small part down to starting a new job and no longer commuting by bike! So the brave new world of non-commuting kicked off with a couple of rides in the Caigngorms which included Laggan [...]

2014 challenge – august

big cake

In the words of Iain Dowie I feel like I put “in a good shift” in August. With the finishing of the Commonwealth Games at the start of the month and the move to a more regular working pattern there was a bit more time for getting out on the bike. To [...]

laggan and fort bill weekender

view from red/black split at laggan

So the date had been in the diary for a good long while but with recent variances in weather we were a bit unsure of what was going to in store for this trip. It was decided to ignore the weather forecast and head to Laggan first so [...]

Ride Surrey 100 (well 86)

After entering the ballot for this event over a year ago and failing to get in both me and Karen decided to take part anyway, Karen through a place in her work ballot and me via a charity place. After we received confirmation training started in earnest. Even though we both had road bikes we [...]

report: tour o the borders 2014

ian cakeriders

After the deluge that was Tour O’ The Borders 2013 hopes were high that the move to August would prevent such a thing happening again in 2014. Unfortunately the weather gods didn’t seem to agree and the forecast was for heavy rain and wind (very much like the previous day).

Great ride but where was David Attenborough?

Mr A

Given the turn of the weather and my recent visit to the mecca of mountain biking (although given I didn’t so much as see a bike the whole time I was there on account of the snow) I thought it was about time to visit Berkshire’s very own Mecca of Swinley Forest.

ride report: not innerleithen

cathy on a climb that is not at innerleithen

So the plan had been to head to innerleithen rather than the usual Glentress. A civilised meeting time of midday was arranged.

When driving towards innerleithen could spot a field with lots of event type paraphanlia but we thought it was the wrong side of [...]
