ride 2015 – october

road bike gets an outing

Well October was a bit of a mixed month for riding.

The month started and ended well kicking off with surprisingly high levels of motivation in part as a result from the warm weather and ending with reaching the 150 target.

Unfortunately the riding was interrupted somewhat by a bout of manflu that meant the tail-end of the warm weather was missed!

The first couple of rides of the month ended in the dark with the nights drawing in but the warm weather tempted me to get the road bike out for an all too infrequent jaunt on the roads around Glasgow. The warm and dry weather meant that there very little post ride bike cleaning to be done which is a blessing in the ninth month of the year.

This was followed by the obligatory (at least once a month) trip to Glentress and then made the trip to Perthshire to ride the trails at Comrie Croft. The place might be small but it has some fantastic rocky trails which feel a little like a toned down Laggan as well as the fun jumpy and pumpy descent to finish. Not only that but they do mahoosive pieces of cake and tea in china cups and saucers. Good trails and refined refreshments, cannot as for more than that. The ride was made even sweeter as it was the first jaunt on the bike after ten days off with a bout of manflu.

A couple more local rides were undertaken before the main activity of the month which was the first foray in to the world of enduro with the Fair City Enduro.

Fittingly I hit the target of 150 rides on a wet solo night ride around the local trails. Reckon it was pretty apt as in many ways setting such arbitrary targets like number of rides or miles ridden (last year) if nothing else provides the motivation to get out on the bike on days when motivation can sometimes be hard to find.

The month was rounded off with getting a demo bike for an hour form the excellent Mugdock Country Cycles to take around the local trails for an hour. With 130mm of travel at either end and full carbon lightness it is a seriously impressive bike, given me food for thought in the bike consideration stakes in to 2016.

So October done and yearly target done, now just a case of seeing if I can find some more motivation for potentially the coldest and wettest months of the year…
